Preparations are underway for Fish Creek Falls annual 4th of July Carnival—and Myra Bailey is set to bake up a storm at her popular shop, Dessert First. Too bad the honor of creating the official 4th of July Carnival cake went to famous lifestyle maven Rachel Whey—a half-baked idea, in Myra's opinion. She suspects Rachel Whey is a lot like the confections she whips up on her cable TV cooking show—sweet, light, and scrumptious-looking, but likely to leave a bitter aftertaste in your mouth.
Myra's suspicions are confirmed when Rachel’s limo rolls into town. Turns out America's popular and beautiful cooking sweetheart is bossy, bad-tempered, and downright tyrannical. Things finally boil over when Myra arrives at Dessert First to find the 4th of July Carnival cake burnt to a crisp—and Rachel lying dead in her kitchen, struck down while eating Myra's famous Red, White and Blueberry Trifle!
Next thing Myra knows, the police have declared Dessert First’s kitchen crime scene off-limits. She's a baker without an oven—and the carnival is right around the corner with no cake. Myra's only alternative is to cook up a plan to save her business—by finding the killer herself.
Was Dessert First also a target? Will the killer come after Myra? Was she actually the intended victim and the killer was surprised to find Rachel there instead?
